The 4 simple ways to end suffering
Wouldn’t it be amazing if there was one cause for all suffering, and one simple solution? Good news…there is! I was on a walk the other morning, and I had an epiphany. I saw many of the concepts I have pondered for the past 5 years come together into one grand picture.
I received the final piece to a puzzle. The puzzle of suffering.
All suffering is caused by separation.
All suffering is cured through connection.
I have spent the last 5 years doing a deep dive into all things: self-care, self-love, mindfulness, meditation and spirituality. As I witnessed all of these concepts being pulled together into a simple (yet profound) package, I was overjoyed! After the powerful responses from those I shared this epiphany with, it became clear to me that I was on to something. You see, for the past 5 years I have been on a journey of healing. In the fall of 2016, I worked myself into complete exhaustion. I dedicated 2017 to getting better. This is where I “found” the Present Moment. Or more accurately, the Present Moment “found” me.
It was in 2017 that I developed practices that brought me to self-care, self-love, worthiness, and healing. I became passionate about sharing what I had discovered with others. In this space is where my mission statement was born:
My burning desire is to help spark Self-Love in fellow souls, through the power and magic of the Present Moment, igniting a Movement of Rapturous Love.
Now that you know the back story, I’d love to share the 4 areas of suffering, and how to cure them.
Source is known my many names: God, Allah, and the Universe…just to name a few. If we are not connected to Source, it’s as if we are trying to use a use a vacuum with no power. You may be moving the vacuum and creating patterns on the floor, but you’re not actually accomplishing anything. It’s ineffective. Not being tapped into your vital energy source causes tremendous suffering and can ultimately manifest in burnout, breakdowns, and many mental and physical illnesses.
I see Source as Love. As an ever-flowing river. Once we are tapped into it, we have access to unlimited energy, knowledge, resources and inspiration. There are many ways to tap into it: prayer, worship, mindfulness, meditation, movement, creative endeavors, etc. The list is endless, and is personal to each individual.
”Soul” may refer to our: true-self, authentic self, essence, divine spark, etc. When we came to this earth we “forgot” who we were. This space of “forgetting” causes suffering. This can show itself through: negative self-talk, perfectionism, anxiety, depression, stress, overwhelm, eating disorders, addictions, self-harm, abuse of self and others, etc. When we are not connected to our worth, when we don’t know our intrinsic value, we suffer. We will spend every waking minute trying to end the suffering and ease the pain.
Let me give you a hint: you are pure love, worthiness and perfection. When we remember we have intrinsic value, that we don’t need to be fixed, and that we are enough, it ends the suffering. Now, I am not going to say that this is a “one and done” type of situation. We can play the “remember and forget” game our whole lives. However, as we are able to string together more and more moments of remembering, it becomes easier and easier.
Did you know that Now is all there is? Now is the only place your body, heartbeat, and breath reside? The only place you can feel a feeling, think a thought, make a decision, experience life, and use all of your senses? Now is the only time you are fully integrated in every aspect of your being. Suffering is created, when you become dis-integrated. I believe that suffering happens, because every aspect of your being knows the truth of Now.
“If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the moment.” ~Lao Tzu
Mindfulness is present moment awareness. Mindfulness brings you into the Now. Sitting still. Breathing. These are easy access points. Mindfulness is how I found the path to healing. Mindfulness is actually how I cultivated my connection to Source, and I remembered my innate worthiness. This is where I tap into my endless stream of energy and Self-Love every day.
As humans, we are very good at creating separation between each other. It stems from our tribal past when others were the enemy. Now it is exploited to gain power and control over certain groups. We cannot deny the suffering caused by these distinctions. It doesn’t end there. We also do this in our personal lives. Seeing others that are different than us as: needing to be fix, avoided, ignored or even as a threat. We also do this to ourselves, feeling we are not accepted, worthy or adequate. This separation from others, whether in large or small groups, or individuals is the breeding ground for every type of suffering there is.
Once we have connected to Source, our Soul, and Now, a magical thing happens: we now have real-time access to Unconditional Love. As we connect to Source and it flows through us in the Present Moment, we see our own intrinsic value. As we come to know our own worthiness, we can only see other’s worthiness too. You see, the lens in which we see the world has changed. You can’t have two lenses. You can only have one. Why not choose the lens of Love?
